Abstract
We report measurements of the mass distributions of fragments from fission of the nuclei /sup 237/Np, /sup 238/U, and /sup 249/Cf by /sup 4/He ions with energy 28 and 36 MeV. The measurements were made in a time-of-flight spectrometer with a mass resolution of 1.5%. The ratios of the symmetric and asymmetric components of the fragment mass distributions are analyzed. On the assumption that the shaping of the mass distributions occurs near the outer fission barrier, estimates are obtained for the difference in the barriers for symmetric and asymmetric fission.
A significance statement is not available in the OpenAlex record.
