Prevalence of coccidiosis in kids in and around Guwahati

Abstract

Studies on prevalence of coccidiosis in kids was conducted during the period of one year (August, 2010 to July, 2011) at Goat Research Station, Assam Agricultural University, Burnihat and other private farms at Khanapara, Dolgaon, Kamalpur and Hajo in Kamrup district of Assam under natural feeding and management system. The prevalence of coccidiosis in kids was found to be 26.57%. Highest prevalence (41.93%) was seen in the month of October and lowest in the months of January (15.63%). Season-wise prevalence of coccidiosis in kids showed highest in post-monsoon season (32.03%), followed by monsoon (29.09%), pre-monsoon (28.28%) and lowest prevalence (17.64%) was recorded in winter season. Age-wise prevalence was highest under the age group of 0 to 3 months (32.86%), followed by 4 to 6 months (31.01%) and 7 to 9 months (16.19%). In the present study apparently higher rate of prevalence was recorded in females (27.22%) than males (26.07%). Breed-wise prevalence showed highest (29.16%) prevalence in Assam Hill goat, followed by Cross bred (25.64%) and Beetal (20.95%). Study recorded Eimeria arloingi and E. ninakohlyakimovae infection in kids.
