Abstract
Studies were conducted on the effect of type of harwood cutting and levels of indolebutyric acid (IBA) on rooting and success in pomegranate. Stem cuttings from basal, sub-apical and apical portions were treated with IBA at concentrations of 0, 2500, 5000, 7500 and 10000 ppm by quick dip method. Basal cutting having a dai-meter of 1.0 to 1.25 cm and treated with 5000 ppm IBA gave highest per cent survival, number and length of roots and number of shoots. Sub-apical cuttings with 5000 ppm IBA were next best. Apical cuttings totally failed to sprout and root at all concentrations of IBA. High C/N ratio and carbohydrate reserves per cutting were responsible for maximum success of basal cuttings.
