Abstract
Extracted from text ... After qualifying, all doctors in South Africa have to complete 2 years of internship
and 1 year of community service. As these community service doctors will be
placed in different areas of South Africa, each with unique medical needs,
the training received in each area will differ. This study set out to determine
the patient profile that a community service doctor in Senekal, Free State, was
exposed to during 2001 in a typical rural South African hospital. J P Theron was
asked to keep a record of all the patients he saw during his community service
year.
