Abstract
This paper compares alternative sources of energy for a well pumping station and finds that gas will not contaminate the well field as can diesel fuel, and that the energy cost of gas is 60% of that of electricity for the amount of energy needed monthly. It reports that a comparison of the estimates for service life of gas engine, and frequency and cost of repairs indicates that the ordinary automobile type engine would be the most economical. Table showing savings in operating and maintenance costs of gas engines as compared with electric motors is presented. The paper proposed that an ordinary truck engine will be more than adequate for any standby power use, but recommends investing in the best and most reliable appurtenances.
