Abstract
A substantial amount of electric power is generated or displaced by industry today and rapidly rising fuel costs will increase the number of industrial cogeneration facilities. Mechanical work performed in a cogeneration system is an efficient use of energy and, as such, should be recognized by the Government if incentives are offered for cogeneration installations. With the great energy savings potential it is likely that each of the problems or barriers discussed will be solved. Government incentives or mandates may be a solution. In any event, the regulations under which utilities must operate cause some of the problems and they should be reexamined. Industry and the nation have too much to gain to let such problems stand in the way indefinitely. 9 figures.
