Abstract
A field experiment was conducted to study growth and profitability of onion var. N-53 under Manipur conditions in Factorial RBD with four different spacing and four different planting dates with three replication during both the years of experimentation. Closer plant spacing (10x10cm) had produced maximum NAR, PGE, FWWP, yield per plot and benefit-cost ratio. However, the wider plant spacing (15x20cm) gave maximum fresh weight of bulb and bulb dry matter percentage. Planting on 25th November (D1) resulted in maximum plant height, NAR, PGE, higher dry matter percentage, fresh weight of whole plant, yield per plot, fresh weight of bulb, and benefit-cost ratio which was closely followed by planting on 10th December (D2). Planting of onion on 25th November (D1) at closer spacing (10x10cm) should be suggested for maximum economic production of onion under Manipur conditions of North-East India.
