Abstract
The salt-affected soils Chambal Command area of Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh were studied for their morphological, physico-chemical characteristics and clay mineralogical composition. The area lies between 25° 50′ and 26° 50′ N latitude and 78° 10′ and 7908′ N longitude and comprises typical wastelands of the district. Five typical pedons (Gohad-P2, Loharpura-P4, Chitora-P8, Tukeda-PIO andParechha-P13) selected for the study were classified as Aerie Halaquepts (P2), Veriic Natragids (P4), Sodic Haplocalcids (P8), Typic Natrargids (P10) and Sodic Haplocambids (PI3) based on sub-surface diagnostic horizons and soil moisture regimes. All the soils were high in ECe (5.0 to 31.0 dSm1) and ESP (17.8 to 61.5%) but somewhat low inpHs ranging from 7.5 to 8.8.
