Abstract
Five pedons representing widespread saline and sodic soils in Bharatpur district were studied for their genesis and taxonomy. The clay migration was responsible for the formation of argillic and natric horizons in three pedons which were classified as Typic Haplustalf, Typic Natrustalf and Aquic Natrustalf, based on sub-surface diagnostic horizons and soil moisture regime, as influenced by micro topographical positions. The pedon P4 showed the presence of cambic horizon with ESP> 15 having downward increasing trend and chroma of 4 whereas pedon P5 had diagnostic salic horizon. These two pedons are classified as Aerie Halaquept and Typic Salorthid, respectively.
