Seroprevalence of bluetongue disease in ruminants of Madhya Pradesh

Abstract
Bluetongue disease is one of the multispecies list of notifiable disease by the office of international des epizooties (OIE) because of its substantial economic impact and potential for rapid spread. BT has a wide host range including sheep, goat, cattle, buffalo, gazelle spp., antelope and cheetal. In the present study, blood samples were collected from animals and the serum was used for the detection of BTV antibodies by i-ELISA. The study included a total of 1137 blood samples comprising of 210 sheep, 290 goats, 372 cattle and 265 buffaloes collected from three agro-climatic zone of M.P. The seropositive animals were detected in all eight districts of M.P. included in the study. The overall prevalence of BTV antibodies were calculated to be 33.16% in M.P.
