Bearing Behaviour and Fruit Quality of South Indian Varieties of Mango in Northern India

Studies on bearing behaviour and physico-chemical quality of fruit were carried out in 12 varieties of mango. The maximum total soluble solids 21.50 per cent, sugar 18.283 per cent and least acid 0.312 per cent was found in Alphonso. Total soluble solids and sugar contents were found to have a positive correlation between them. Morphological characters of stone were found identical and soft and short fibre was found in almost all the varieties. The least incidence of malformation was found in Alphonso, Neelum, Peddarasam, Janardan Pasand and Vanraj in comparison to other varieties. Alphonso was found to be the best of all the varieties as is evinced by fruit quality, total soluble solids, sugar content and flavour aspects. Neelum was recorded the next best variety.
