Impact of Agriculture on Regional Development in Aligarh District (Uttar Pradesh)

Agriculture occupies a dominant position in the national economy but the sad part is that its production efficiency is not up to the mark if compared with others agriculturally advanced countries of the world. Its yield of crops in India comparatively low which is about 0.33 per cent of yield of such country. The low yield per hectare in the country is due improper cultivation of land and *less use of modern agricultural inputs. The total production of food grains is 218.20 million tonnes in 2009–2010. The total area under food grains in 2009–2010 has been reported 121.37 million hectares against 122.83 million hectares in 2008–2009, despite a steady decline of its share in GDP, is still the largest economic sector and significant position of the overall Regional development of India. The Aligarh district was chosen for intensive agriculture district programs in 1960–61 which envisaged immediate increase in production through provision of inputs which includes irrigation, fertilizers, high yielding verities of seeds, insecticides and pesticides.
