Abstract

An experiment was conducted with different concentrations of mineral salts [Al2(SO4)3;CoSO4], germicides (8-HQC;NaOCl) and sucrose, alone and in combinations as preservative solution, for enhancing vase life in cut spike of gladiolus, cv. Pink Friendship. Combination of sucrose (4%) + 8-HQC (200 ppm) was found to be the most effective in extending vase life upto 11.06 days, total blooming period and other quality parameters like floret size, anthocyanin content, change in fresh weight etc., whereas longevity and floret opening duration were found maximum in sucrose (4%)+Al2 (SO4)3 (300 ppm).
