Abstract
ABstRACt Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) fingerprinting was applied to characterize leptospiral strains. Two primers were used to generate individual RAPD fingerprints. The DNA fingerprints obtained were distinct and reproducible. The fingerprints obtained could be useful for distinguishing and characterizing the strains. Profiles obtained revealed genetic heterogeneity between strains belonging to one serovar. In conclusion, different DNA fingerprints were obtained which would allow characterization of the strains.
