Analysis of Incidence of Diseases in Buffaloes in Uttar Pradesh

Abstract

The present study has been conducted based on the data collected from 504 livestock owners in Agra division of Uttar Pradesh. An attempt has been made in this study to analyze the incidence of diseases in buffaloes during the period from 1st January 2011 to 31st December 2011. Chi- Square test and logistic regression analysis were employed to study the incidence of diseases in buffaloes. In the study area, PMR (Proportional Morbidity Rate) in buffaloes was highest due to specific diseases (42.95%) including FMD (28.39%), HS (9.23%) and mastitis (5.33%) followed by reproductive diseases (17.95%) and digestive diseases (12.18%). Age and gender wise morbidity pattern due to different diseases was significant (P<0.05). The calves were highly affected by parasitic diseases (25.81%) followed by respiratory diseases (19.35%). In young stock the highest PMR was due to specific diseases (58.70%) and in adults reproductive diseases (29.11%) had high morbidity. However age wise mortality pattern due to different diseases was significant but gender wise mortality pattern was not significant in buffaloes. The logistic analysis showed that the young stocks were at higher risk of morbidity and mortality than that of calves and adults and males were at greater risk of morbidity and mortality than that of females.
