Abstract
Field experiment was conducted at Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi in kharif 1984 and 1985 on deep alluvial sandy loam soil with treatment combinations of five excess soil water situations and three levels of nitrogen i.e. 30, 60 and 90 kg N ha −1 along with control in a randomized complete block design with three replications with soybean during kharif and wheat during rabi. Application of fertilizer N to preceding soybean crop improved yield attributes as well as productivity of wheat crop up to 60 kg N/ha. Effect of varying durations of excess soil water exercised in preceding soybean crop progressively and significantly decreased all the yield attributes as well as grain and biological yields of wheat, but harvest index increased with the increase in duration of excess soil water
