Abstract
Nitrogen is the major nutrient in potato production along with P and K. A normal potato crop yielding 300 q/ha removes about 100 kg nitrogen/ha within 40-70 days (3) which is higher than any other field crop when compared on a per day basis. Therefore, it is important to apply sufficient amount of N to ensure proper growth and yield. Many improved potato cultivars having better yield potential and processing quality have been released by the Central Potato Research Institute, Shimla (4) for different regions of the country. Since there are cultivar differences in response to applied nutrients particularly nitrogen, it is important to evaluate their efficiency and response to nutrients.
