The effects of the kindergarten entrance age on students achievement

Abstract
The age a child enters kindergarten can have a profound effect on his/her later academic performance; yet, little agreement in the field exists regarding that optimal age. This study considered the effect of kindergartners entrance age might have on their academic performance. A survey was distributed to parents of at-risk, early entry age students and elicited their perspective of the potential effect that their child's kindergarten entrance age has had on their school experience. The findings from this study are inconclusive. There was no "best entrance" age for all children. Rather, this study reveals that parents/guardians should determine their child's readiness for school after careful observation, discussion with teachers, and based on the child's individual skills.
