Abstract
Field experiment was conducted during winter seasons of 1996–97 and 1997–98 to assess the bio-efficacy of metsulfuronmethyl (MSM) in combination with isoproturon for control of grassy and non-grassy weeds in wheat. Results revealed that ready mix formulation of MSM+isoproturon at 6.0+500 g ha−1, 2, 4-D+isoproturon at 500+1000 g ha−1 and isoproturon alone at 1500 g ha−1 significantly reduced the total density of weeds and their dry matter production. Isoproturon at 1.0 lind 1.5 kg ha−1 was more effective than at lower doses applied alone or in combination with 2, 4-D in reducing density of non-grassy weeds, None of the treatments caused any phytotoxic effects on the crop at any stage. Grain yield was consistently higher due to ready mix formulation of MSM+isoproturon at 4.0+1000 g ha−1 and combination of higher doses of 2, 4-D and isoproturon. The carbendazim, urea and monocrotophos as tank mixture with ready mix formulation of MSM+isoproturon at 3.0+750 g ha−1 were compatible.
