Abstract

OUtlines work being undertaken to automate toll collection on the Dulles Toll Road in Virginia. The paper covers aspects of the Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI) system concepts and performance standards, system characteristics, technical options, economic assessment and system topology. Details of surveys of potential users are covered, together with institutional issues.
