Abstract
In this paper the relation between the improvements on type dimensions and structure of car sales on rolling stocks and the fatigue strength of the axle is described. The measures of improving the type and dimensions of axle as well as their fatigue strength are also put forward. According to the results of 8 real axle type RD2 and 62 analogy axles with size scale 1:2.5, it is shown that if the radius of fillet on inner side of wheel seat is reduced from R75 to R55 and overhang form of wheel set assembling is adopted, the fatigue limit can be enhanced by about 20% and its service life can be more than double.
