Abstract
The article is a continuation of the one published in the Revue in March 1975 on rotary deflection fatigue in wheelsets. The purpose of Part 2 is to give the results of research on the mechanical treatment of axle surfaces, particularly shot-blasting. This treatment can either increase the reliability of existing axles, or allow the dimensions of the axle shafts to be reduced in the future while maintaining the same degree of reliability.
