Abstract
A laboratory experiment was conducted to study the effect of various chemical combinations on vase life and other quality parameters of cut rose flower in cv. “Grand Gala”. Different chemical combinations used, consisted of silver nitrate, citric acid, salicylic acid, aluminium sulphate and sucrose. All the treatments shows significant increase in vase life over control (distilled water). Among all the treatments, treatment T2, (4% sucrose + silver nitrate 100ppm) pulsed for 24hrs was found most effective in enhancing the vase life (10days) and maximum flower diameter (6.26cm) of cut rose. However, maximum water uptake (55 ml) was recorded with the pulsing treatment T11 (4% sucrose + Al2(SO4)3 100ppm for 24hrs) at senescence. While maximum fresh weight gain (3.01g) and dry weight gain (0.28g) after pulsing was recorded with the treatment T7, (4% sucrose + salicylic acid 200ppm) and T6 (4% sucrose + salicylic acid 150ppm). On third day, there is considerable loss in fresh and dry weight which was recorded till senescence.
