AN ANALYSIS OF THE SURFACE WATER CONDITIONS AND WATER ENVIRONMENTAL CAPACITY IN ZHAOQING CITY

Zhaoqing City is situated in the West and North River basins where there are water sources for the Zhujiang River Delta. The city is well-known in tourism. Under the new economic development situation, Zhaoqing City is undergoing a new cycle of conceptual and detailed urban planning. To meet the requirement of the planning,an analysis of the surface water conditions and water environmental capacity of the city is made in the paper. It is shown that the resource of the surface water in Zhaoqing City is rich and its water environmental pollution is at a low level. In most areas the water quality is of Category II in the national water quality standard. Although the water environmental capacity is high, the pollutants in the drained wastewater have taken an annual-increase tendency-the volume of wastewater emission is reaching the total control level of Guangdong Province. To control water environmental pollution is a major task for the metropolitan development. The methods of controlling water environmental pollution in Zhaoqing City, are discussed.
