DISSIPATION OF ENDOSULFAN RESIDUES IN/ON CHICKPEA CROP

Abstract

The residues of endosulfan on straw and pods of chickpea were analysed by the High Performance Liquid Chromatography method. Endosulfan residues persisted up to 15 days in chickpea crop. In this period, residue levels were below the MRL of 2 ppm prescribed by FAO/WHO. Residues were dissipated from 7.58 ppm to 0.70 ppm (90.76 per cent) during first spraying. During second and third spraying it was dissipated from 6.5 to 0.41 ppm and 5.09 to 0.46 ppm (92.26 and 90.96 per cent) within 15 days in leaves. In pods it was dissipated from 3.71 ppm to 0.26 ppm within 15 days. After second spraying it was dissipated from 3.12 ppm to 0.32 ppm (89.72 per cent). Second year followed the same trend of dissipation both in leaves and pods. No endosulfan residues were found at the time of harvesting. Residues were dissipated in the first order kinetics. Waiting periods were 3.80 to 4.40 days and 5.80 to 8.20 days in straw of chickpea in both year. In pods, it was 3.87 to 4.35 and 4.04 to 4.79 days.
