Abstract
Seventy desi chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) genotypes were evaluated by using an open field screening technique under natural infestation. The parameters used for evaluating these genotypes were relative pest pressure index, relative intensity of damage index, and relative productivity index. None of the genotypes could exhibit complete resistance to Heliothis armigera Hub. or could evade the pest infestation. Considering all the three parameters, DHG 84–11, P 240, BG 79 and DHG 88–20 proved either less susceptibile or more pest tolerant, whereas GNG 752, GCP 89, G 211 and KBG 2 were highly susceptible in comparison to respective checks, viz, P 256, BR 77, C 235 and C 243, belonging to phenologically four different groups of chickpea genotypes.
