Abstract

Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) was found to be commonly infested with the root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita in Karnataka state, India. Nematicidal trials were undertaken to control these nematodes with the aid of systemic nematicides viz., fensulfothion, aldicarb, phorate, carbofuran, methomyl, oxamyl and ethoprop so as to evaluate the efficacy of these non-fumigant nematicides in controlling nematodes and their possible effect on okra yield. During the year 1974, aldicarb at 1.5 kg gave significantly the highest yield 127.5 q/ha). Aldicarb at 1.0 kg came next (114.04 q/ha) and was on par with fensulfothion at 1.5 kg (108.39q/ha), carbofuran at 1.5 kg (113.23 q/ha) ethoprop at 1.0 kg (111.13 q/ha) and 1.5 kg (113.30 q/ha). During the year 1975 aldicarb at 2.0 kg/ha gave the maximum yield (126.02 q/ha) which was on par with aldicarb at 1.5 kg/ha (118.39 q/ha). Aldicarb at 1.5 and 1.0 kg/ha (110.21 q/ha) were on par.
