Management of Sand Budget - Kirra Beach, Gold Coast

Abstract

Management of the sediment budget of a beach calls for knowledge of rates of sand input and output, and also manner of sand movement and associated beach behaviour. Nourishment of beaches on the Lower Gold Coast, Queensland, provided an opportunity to study both rate and manner of sand movement, using, inter alia, a large scale sand tracer experiment. Initial results are reported and discussed.
