Towards ecosystem-based fisheries management.

Abstract

This chapter describes the objectives of the Reykjavik Conference on Responsible Fisheries in the Marine Ecosystem, which aimed to gather and review the best available knowledge on marine ecosystem issues, identify means by which ecosystem considerations can be included in fisheries management and identify future challenges and relevant strategies. Data on the state of world fisheries, fisheries and the ecosystem, fishing-related ecosystem impacts and implementation of fishery management laws are presented.
