Sustainable use of living marine resources must consider both the impacts of the ecosystem on the living marine resources, and the impacts of fishery on the ecosystem. This holistic approach to fisheries management has been termed as “ecosystem based fisheries management” (EBFM). Similar holistic management approach in fisheries management have been differently termed as Ecosystem considerations (EC), Ecosystem approach to fisheries (EAF), Ecosystem based management (EBM), Ecosystem Management (EM) etc by various authors.
