Efficacy of Different Insecticides and Trichogramma chilonis Ishii in Managing Rice Leaffolder, Cnaphalocrocis medinalis Guenee

Abstract

Seven treatment viz., cartap hydrochloride 4G, monocrotophos 36 SL, Bacillus thuringiensis vaf. Kurstaki, endosulfan 35EC, neem 300 ppm (azadirachtin), ethofenprox 10EC and innundative release of egg parasitoid Trichogramma chilonis Ishii were evaluated against rice leaffolder, Cnaphalocrocis medinalis Guenee under field conditions during Kharif 1999. Cartap hydrochloride 4G @ 0.75 kg a.i. ha−1 proved the most effective insecticide in reducing leaffolder's infestation and realizing maximum grain yield, 21.7% increase over untreated control. This was followed by an insecticidal schedule of cartap hydrochloride and monocrotophos 36SL @ 0.5 kg a.i 8 ha−1 resulting in 16.97% increase in yield. Neem, biopesticide (Bt.) and biocontrol agent also played a significant role in mitigating the leaf folder's damage.
