Abstract
Two experiments were laid out with gladiolus cv. ‘Friendship’, the first involving 3 depths of plantings and 3 spacings, while the second involving 3 corm sizes, 3 depth of plantings and 3 spacings. It was observed that larger corms increased the height of plants highly significantly. Increased planting density resulted in shorter rachis, less number and small-sized florets. In one of the experiments wider spacing improved the keeping quality of flowers under field conditions. Shallow planting increased while deep planting reduced the number of cormels produced per plant. The interaction between wider spacing and shallow planting produced significantly heavier cormels as against deep planting.
