Abstract
Persistence of fipronil in soil under chilli crop by applying commercial formulation of fipronil (Regent 5 SC) @ 50 and 100 g a.i. ha−1 in field is reported. Soil samples drawn periodically at 0 (1h), 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 15, 20 and 30 days of treatment were analyzed by GC-ECD equipped with capillary column. The residues of fipronil at both the doses dissipated by almost 80% in 30 days. Desulfinyl, sulfone and sulfide dissipated almost 90% in 15 days. Half-life ranged from 5–5.5 days in case of fipronil alone and 2.6 to 2.9 days for fipronil and its metabolites in soil at the two test doses.
