Abstract
The first part of this chapter synthesizes findings (based on fieldwork carried out in Central American countries in 2002-05) concerning the retail sector in the horticultural product market, both as a marketer and a procurer of produce from wholesalers and farmers. The second part synthesize findings from studies conducted in Nicaragua and Guatemala on the determinants and effects of grower participation in the supermarket channel.
