Abstract

Public parking lots are one of the main means to accommodate social parking demands, and also are effective measures to mitigate the problem caused by a shortage of planned parking lots. Generally, optimization of parking spaces in public parking lots is an efficient way to meet the parking demand. This paper analyzes the main factors impacting the scale of a certain parking lot, such as parking service radius, length of parking time, trip purpose, in which service radius or walking distance is an important factor that is closely related with parking behavior. Then an optimization model on a parking scale is put forward based on parking demand generation in sub-area districting and parking choice behavior. In the model formulation, parking choice probability which is influenced by service radius is taken into account. With analysis of data from stated preferences and a revealed preference parking survey, unknown parameters of the model are calibrated. Finally, the model is tested by application in the city of Zhuhai to optimize the existing parking lot.
