Analysis of Industrial Trends in China’s Overseas Direct Investment

Abstract

The development process of China's overseas direct investment (ODI) has had a short history and a relatively small scale. Although investment has increased in a range of industries—expanding from traditional industries to high-tech ones and emerging services—the structure of overall investment is still not appropriate. China's ODI is comparatively concentrated, mostly located in Asia and Africa. Private enterprises have low participation and failed to grasp the core technology. Faced with the increasingly serious international financial situation, China must develop rational plans on ODI by selecting key industries and improving industrial chains in regions that receive investments.
