Abstract
Storage is an important and expensive component of a computer system. Many types of storage such as semi-conductor, magnetic core, bulk core, disk, drum, tape, etc. are available today, each having different cost and physical attributes (e.g., access time). To be economical, the storage system of a modern computer generally consists of several different types of storage devices. Such an assemblage is called a multi-level storage system (or a storage hierarchy system).
