Abstract
Two experiments are reported. In the first, 100 student subjects took part in a modified repetition of a previous experiment. The results confirm and add to those of the earlier study. In the second, 487 students took a task requiring the production of three different solution words from the same anagram. The various orders of producing these words directly demonstrate anagram solving as a continued trial‐and‐check activity with determinable transition probabilities between successive ‘tries’.
