Scientific Research in Librarianship: A Panacea for Library Development in Nigeria

This paper critically examines the issue of research in librarianship and how the dearth of scientific research in the field affects its development in Nigeria. Problems such as lack of government support and interest in the profession, lack of research-minded librarians, etc., are responsible for the lack of scientific research in the profession. The result is the lack of popularity of the profession. Solutions for improving the adequacy of research techniques in librarianship are offered.
