Abstract
The kinetics of the catalytic oxidation of CO by phosphotungstovanadic heteropolyacids in aqueous solutions of PdSO/sub 4/ has been studied. The rate laws are the same in the presence of two different HPAs. The first of these, PW/sub 11/V, is a one-electron oxidant and the second, PW/sub 9/V/sub 3/, can take up to three electrons under the conditions studied. The rate data obtained showed that the HPA acts as a one-electron oxidant in the oxidation of carbon monoxide. The limiting step in the transfer of electrons from a coordinated CO molecules to a HPA occurs in an active, intermediate complex of Pd(I), apparently, as a synchronous process.
