Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Planning, a Case Study at XYZ Company

Medium-sized Company has to prepare itself in facing global market that is by ensuring the continuity of its business at the time a disaster occurred. However, there are some obstacles, which make the company hesitate to create its business continuity and disaster recovery planning. This research aims to help initiate the development of business continuity and disaster recovery plan in a medium-sized enterprise, called XYZ, as a case study. To obtain information needed on company’s current conditions, and readiness in preparing its business continuity and disaster recovery plan, we used a qualitative approach, which involving observation and interview. It was found that the degree of disaster recovery preparedness of XYZ’s company is at Tier level 0 (no off-site data) from the seven Tier level of disaster recovery. The strategy applicable for the company’s current stage is a cold site strategy with the implementation of creating backups of all critical data and making a system image of the client-server based system, which used to run the company's core business operations.
