Abstract

As the explosion of the Internet traffic, many web sites deploy more servers to support high request rates to web applications. The Domain Name System (DNS) servers dispatch the client requests among the web servers through the domain name to IP-address mapping mechanism and load balancing algorithm. Therefore, DNS traffic analysis has important implications for our research on web server IP-address distribution of the Internet. In this paper, we designed and implemented DTQS system (DNS Traffic Query System) which is used to analyze DNS traffic. Based on the statistical results of the system, this paper presents the distribution of websites servers scale today. And further, according to the mapping IP-address variation of some domain names, we classify the domain names of which mapping IP-address changed into two categories: CINDN (Consistent-IP-Number Domain Name) and VINDN (Variable-IP-Number Domain Name) and study their mapping IP-address variation laws respectively.
