Abstract

One of the difficulties of preliminary ship design is to establish the structural steel weight as a component of the light weight. The object of this paper is to show a method to calculate the weight of the steel and to show the position of the centre of gravity for any type of ship. An example is given for a dry cargo vessel. The form taken is a set of equations to determine the steel weight and its centre of gravity as a function of the principal particulars of the vessel.
