Abstract
The volatile constituents of the essential oil of Rhamnus alaternus L., growing in Algeria, extracted by hydro-distillation have been analysed. A total of 94 volatile compounds were identified and phytol (16.10 %), linalool (15.33 %) and (E)-β-damascenone (5.28 %) were the major components of the essential oil. This is the first report on the chemical compounds of the essential oil of this species.
