Abstract
For modes having azimuthal variation in a cylindrical waveguide with periodic step changes in the radius, the coefficients of coupling between the transverse magnetic and transverse electric modes are determined for small relative changes in the radius. The theory is applied to treat the selective codirectional coupling between a transverse magnetic and transverse electric mode.
