Abstract

A demountable vacuum seal for attaching an endplate to a glass tube is described. A type of O-ring is used. Rotation of a knurled lock-ring caused the 45 deg level on the collar to press agaiast the O-ring, the collar sliding freely on the tube. Equal pressures are then transmitted by the O-ring onto tbe surfaces to be sealed---the outer tube surface and the inner surface of the end- plate. (A.C.)
