Abstract
Abstract A rapid, accurate method of determining forage moisture content would greatly facilitate forage research. Use of neutron moderation to determine moisture content of forages was studied using samples of corn (Zea mays L.), sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench.), bromegrass (Bromus inermis Leyss.), and alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) containing a wide range of moisture contents to obtain a calibration curve for relating counts per minute to amount of moisture in the forage. A single calibration curve could be used for all four species.
