Abstract
The paper describes the construction of the first stage expressway in Bangkok - a 9 km length of urban dual carriageway three-lane motorway mostly elevated on viaduct structure. Special mention is made of the types of 100 T pile and their driving in the soft Bangkok clay, the use of precast pretensioned concrete beams with deflected strands, the filling of low areas with rice husk ash as a lightweight material to limit settlement, and some aspects of the asphaltic concrete surfacing to the viaduct deck concrete.
