Abstract
The essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation of the aerial parts of Salvia indica L. growing wild in Iran was analyzed by a combination of capillary GC and GC-MS. Its mean oil content was 0.8 % (w/w). Twenty-seven components were identified in the oil, representing approximately 93.1 % of the total oil. The oil of Salvia indica is dominated by sesquiterpenes (84.4 %). Its main components were globulol (24.1 %), aromadenderon(10.1 %) and germacrene (10.4 %). Twelve monoterpenes were identified which their contents ranging from 0.09 to 2.5 % in the oil analyzed.
