Abstract
Stray light in spectrophotometers is usually caused by scattering within the monochromator. A study of stray light has been made by an optical technique, and various types and sources of scattered light identified. A variety of stray light paths have also been identified and the consequence for monochromator design is discussed. The effects of wavelength and polarization on stray light in typical monochromators have been studied. The effects of slit height and retro-reflections at the slit jaws are also discussed.
